  • A new-generation of hybrid inverter, ConextTM XW Pro dedicated to the Residential, Commercial & Industrial solar and storage applications
  • Rule 21 compliant, and planned development roadmap to meet other SRD requirements for North America
  • Designed for connected architectures, simplified installation & integration with monitoring

Conext XW Pro hybrid inverterGrenoble, September 20 – Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the launch of the next-generation hybrid inverter, ConextTM XW Pro. To address the grid interactive requirements in California, ConextTM XW Pro meets the Rule 21’s SRD requirements.

This announcement follows Schneider Electric’s recent release of PREPA firmware for their ConextTM XW+ line of products to meet grid requirements in Puerto Rico. Since Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico in September 2017, Schneider Electric has been working closely with local partners to restore power to the island, deploying thousands of systems in the past 18 months.

The ConextTM XW Pro interoperates with solar charge controllers and most conventional PV inverters in AC-coupled configurations, which makes the product ideal for retrofit applications in both residential and commercial settings.

The ConextTM XW Pro will initially be Rule 21 compliant, and Schneider Electric will release upgrades to compliance with other SRD requirements for the North American region. The initial launch of the XW Pro will be UL-only; Schneider Electric will launch an IEC version of this product in 2019.

Conext XW Pro hybrid inverterSchneider Electric also announces the launch of the ConextTM Gateway and the ConextTM Insight 2, next-generation monitoring and control solutions for Commercial & Industrial solar and storage projects. The ConextTM Gateway supports Wi-Fi connectivity and comes with a wide range of other communications interfaces for integration with inverters, power meters, weather stations, Lithium-Ion batteries and much more. In addition to the ability to monitor systems remotely from the cloud, ConextTM Insight 2 will allow installers to manage system settings and firmware updates remotely.

“The launch of the ConextTM XW Pro, ConextTM Gateway and the ConextTM Insight 2, are the latest examples of our continuing commitment to the off-grid, grid-connected back-up and storage markets,” says Evan Vogel, Vice President of Marketing, Schneider Electric Solar Business.  “With this new lineup of products, we introduce a whole range of system level functionality. We’re excited to announce the launch of these solutions as Schneider Electric Solar Business increases our already major focus on the rapidly-growing global Residential, Commercial & Industrial project segments.”

For a long time, electricity demand was seen as relatively inert. Sure, it fluctuated: people got up in the morning, turned on the lights, went to work, turned on machines, and in affluent, consumer societies the biggest peak was often in the evening when millions of consumers got home and fulfill their real societal function of turning on big-screen TVs and… read more

Schneider Electric’s Solar Microgrid System Powers A Pre-school in Puerto Rico

Schneider Electric's Solar Microgrid System Powers a Pre-school in Puerto RicoA year after hurricane Maria, many businesses in Puerto Rico have installed microgrids to assist them in case of an emergency.

In March 2018, AG Group Inc. hosted a training event at their facility. They invited Wholesale Electric and Schneider Electric to provide the latest information on Schneider Electric’s microgrid product line, including the ConextTM XW+, and the ConextTM MPPT 80 600 family of products.

AG Group Inc. designed and installed one such microgrid in a pre-school, where they collaborated with Wholesale and Schneider Electric from the very beginning.

About 30 kids attend the pre-school, which is required by the government to maintain a standard of care. Their main priority for this project was food safety, as they prepare meals for the kids and refrigeration is critical.

This system has roughly 16KW of solar array, with four ConextTM MPPT 80 600s, three ConextTM XW+ 6848s, and 57Kw-H of storage.

During the commissioning, the system was tested to operate the pre-school during a full power outage and the systems performed as per specifications. This test included three large air conditioners, as well as all other appliances on site.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to be present for this microgrid commissioning. It is not often that I get to witness the full project cycle, from product training, to design review, to the final step of commissioning. I am very proud of our involvement in this project,” said Sandra Herrera, Applications Engineer at Schneider Electric.
